Dr. Poorti Riley has cared for women in Marion County since 1999. Over more than 27 years in practice, she has built her work around a single principle: the most common problems in gynecology — heavy bleeding, fibroids, bleeding after menopause — should be solved with the least invasive treatment that will work.
Same-day treatment, without hormones and without a hysterectomy
Much of Dr. Riley’s practice is devoted to treating heavy menstrual bleeding and uterine fibroids without hormonal medication and without removing the uterus. She offers the full range of incisionless, same-day options, including the Sonata treatment, which shrinks fibroids using radiofrequency energy delivered through the cervix 2)TruClear hysteroscopic removal of fibroids and polyps 3)and Minerva endometrial ablation.
For many women this means going home the same day, returning to normal activity within a day or two, and avoiding both the side effects of hormonal therapy and the weeks of recovery that follow a hysterectomy. It also means an option for women who cannot take hormones safely at all. If hysterectomy is needed, she performs it with 5 mm incisions and patients go home within the same day and are back to their daily activities within 1-2 weeks.
Answers in a single visit
Dr. Riley performs endometrial biopsy and hysteroscopy in the office, which means most women with abnormal or postmenopausal bleeding can be evaluated, biopsied, and given answers in one appointment — without scheduling a separate trip to the operating room. For bleeding after menopause in particular, where prompt evaluation matters, this shortens the wait from weeks to a few office visits.
Advanced robotic surgery
When surgery is the right answer, Dr. Riley is one of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the region, performing complex gynecologic procedures with the da Vinci surgical system. She also serves as a proctor for Intuitive Surgical, training other surgeons in robotic surgical technique.
Background
Dr. Riley earned her medical degree from the University of Florida, where she was admitted through the university’s highly selective early admissions program and graduated at the top of her class. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Florida in 1999.
She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She is an active member of the Marion County Medical Society and the Florida Medical Association and maintains collaborative relationships with colleagues at the University of Florida.
