What Are Uterine Fibroids?

Uterine fibroids are non-cancerous (benign) growths in or around the uterus. The vast majority of women in the United States will have fibroids by the age of 50.

What are the Benefits of Sonata Fibroids Treatment?

Fast Recovery

Many women return to normal activity the next day.

No Incision

The fibroids are treated from inside the uterus, so there is no cutting or scarring.

Uterus Preserving

Unlike a hysterectomy, treatment with the Sonata system does not eliminate the possibility of pregnancy.

How Sonata Works

With the Sonata Treatment, the fibroids are treated from inside the uterus, so there’s no incision. Many women return to normal activity the next day. The Sonata Treatment uses a handpiece with a miniature high-resolution ultrasound tip that allows the doctor to see the fibroids from inside the uterus during the procedure, and then treat each fibroid with a process called an “ablation.”

  • Step 1: The doctor passes the Sonata Treatment handpiece through the vagina and into the uterus.
  • Step 2: Ultrasound waves from the tip are used to locate the fibroid.
  • Step 3: The Sonata Treatment handpiece delivers radiofrequency energy to shrink the fibroid over time and reduce symptoms.

The Sonata procedure at our premises at Florida Women's Health, LLC typically lasts less than one hour, depending on the number and size of fibroids treated. On average, women return to normal activity in a couple of days. Some patients see improvements in heavy menstrual bleeding within their first cycle. In general, it may take 2-3 cycles, or in some cases, longer.
